I'd just like to ask - is it really normal for our Caren's CRDi to "whistle"? It might be the sound of the turbo kicking in (and doing its job)..but it might also be a sign that there is a leak in the Turbo? I raised this concern because I read a thread at tsikot.com about a D4D innova with a whistling engine.. tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1150538#post1150538Thanks,

I think it's perfectly normal to hear the "whistling" sound in our CRDi engines when we accelerate, and you are right, it's the turbo that's kicking in. I would call it more of the CRDi Turbo humming...
The D4-D engine of the Innova, from what I gathered had some problems and I think they have fixed that (I hope, coz this is the reason why my sister stayed away from buying an Innova). I don't think this not the case with our CRDi engines. The way they described the sound, it's more of air escaping like in a leak or "sumisingaw na hangin." If you think you are also experiencing the same "loss of power" at a certain rpm when on an uphilll climb, then probably you're experiencing the same problem, if not, then rest assured that it's just the sound of the Turbo (in our case, the VGT) that is humming when you accelerate.
To tell you the truth, I sometimes open my windows so that I can hear my carens' engine humming...sarap pakinggan!

The Fort overtook a lot of vehicles on its accent and I was following close and doing the same thing. Then, nung pareho na kami nagovertake ng bus, napansin ko nanghina yung Fort and hindi na ata nya nasustain yung power nya but the Carens was still in momentum and was actually asking me to further step on the accelerator pedal pero nung nagwork na yung turbo..wala na akong nagawa kundi iovertake yung fort. I have high respects for the power of the Fort but at that moment, I knew I had to overtake it because I will lose the momentum at magdo downshift (I was at fourth gear at that time). Galit nga si misis dahil ang yabang ko daw mag drive..but it was never my intention to do it. In fact, when I overtook the fort, I never looked back and I felt I left all the others..hehehe

"" If you think you are also experiencing the same "loss of power" at a certain rpm when on an uphilll climb""
i experience this. bago pa carens namin. wala pang 200 kms. i dont experience whistling sound. from full stop, i can accelerate nicely naman, low rpms. pero pag going uphill na like lets say nagtahan bridge, nawawalan na ng power parang i need to step more on the gas pedal to compensate.
ganon din ba sa inyo?

Yes sometimes..lalo na dito sa Baguio paakyat..it happens whenever I start out on my journey on a cold engine. Drive by wire kasi ang Carens natin kaya kahit anung apak din natin minsan sa pedal eh di gaano responsive agad (tipid nga sa fuel ito kasi maiiwasan ang jack rabbit na arangkada) especially on first gear..pero come 2nd gear hataw na siya..para kang naka first gear dito. Hope you are enjoying your Carens like we all do here .. its time to go on a long roadtrip...hehehe

sanayan lang siguro sa pag-apak at depende rin kung ano dala mong sasakyan. ako kasi, coming from driving a 1.3 vios to the carens AT (CRDi), ibang-iba talaga. syempre mas powerful ang carens. pero i never felt the power loss that you were experiencing jason. kahit noong nag baguio kami. I was really impressed on the carens' power when it comes to going uphill.
btw, [OT] if you have time tomorrow, come to our 5th EB at Kia Pasig.

I hope this helps kahit kaunti lang about our understanding when we say VTG...http://paultan.org/archives/2006/08/16/how-does-variable-turbine-geometry-work/........this site explains how our VGT works..

hi guys, have you had experience na maugong yung pag drive nyo coming from the front wheels? sabi kc ng casa sa akin is i have to replace the wheel bearing daw. sa ngayun is pinakikiramdaman ko pa lang. next week cguro i have to do something na. any comment sirs? ang ugong ay maririnig mula sa front wheels lalo na sa gabi kahit mabagal ang takbo. para syang sluggish ang dating.
