Had our Carens' ECU Software updated 2 weeks ago at Kia Congressional. During the software update (at around 70%), the update failed!!! After which our Carens was no longer 'communicating' with the PC (parang cellphone na ayaw na gumana!!!). The technician tried to start our car, but it wasn't responding. I was asking the technician if the ECU software was corrupted, and he said he didn't know. They didn't know what to do so they called up the plant and they got instructions on how to forcibly update the ECU software. Good thing they got it to work, what was supposed to be a 5 minute update, ended up to be a 2 hour harrowing experience! Apparently, something went wrong and the ECU software got corrupted.

Scary nga yon..buti na lang may isa pa silang option (forced update).. I asked about this ECU update previously from the casa in Pangasinan pero hindi daw sila familiar sa ganon...
Ano nga ba benefit ng pag upgrade ng ECU? As far as I know, naka program na yan (in that software) to perform mostly the basic functions of controlling everything inside the car's engine etc. So kung i u update pa siya, may naidagdag bang function sa Carens natin to neccessitate an upgrade? Not unless siguro may nakita silang previous error (or bug) sa original na software..hindi kaya ganon? Or it (update) might be needed to compensate for the kind of fuel we have here in the Phils?
Too bad hindi naman ma explain mabuti ng casa ang ganitong issue.. we are all left speculating..
sir damikaze, update mo na lang kami kung ano observations mo sa performance thanks

While they were 'updating' the ECU, I was looking at the software they were using (hehehehehe, usyoso ako kasi sa computers din line of work ko eh). What I saw in the ECU update was the description that says "EGR Logic Improvement". I'm assuming this 'improves' how the EGR operates on our Carens, since the EGR is electronically controlled by the ECU. So far I think our Carens is a lot more responsive (or it could be because they cleaned the EGR).

Baka nga kailangan linisin ang EGR at the same time eh i update ang ECU software..thanks sir damikez.

I just purchased my carens and reach more than 5k kmh. I already had a computer box problem by experiencing a 40kmh drastic drive from a constant 100kmh. I told the dealer that it happen to me 4 time during its 5k kmh. They reformatted it and since then, it never happen again.
