I went to Kia Marikina to get my new license plates. While there, I was reminded of the service schedule @5000km. In addition I was told that it's 5000KM or 3 months whichever comes first.
There was someone who came to Kia with less than 5000KM on the odometer, but it's been 7 months since he bought his Carens. Unfortunately, there was something wrong with his vehicle, which Kia would not cover because he failed to follow the maintenance schedule.
So reminder to everyone who do not drive much, your maintenance schedule is every three months or follow your maintenace manual under "severe condtions"

sir jching, may i ask what the maintenance schedule of kia carens is? is it every 3 months on all service schedule or just for the first 5000? i dont have a carens yet sir, but maintenance schedule would play a factor if i ever want to get this car. i usually dont follow the given month schedule, but the mileage schedule. may rationale is, i didnt drive the car for 10,000 kms, so why should there be aproblem. d naman napapanis ang oil eh. i know i may be wrong on this, but may someone please clarify the importance of following the month schedule as opposed to the mileage schedule?
tnx vry much and God bless!!!

Rather than go by what the Kia dealership has told me, I read up on the Carens manual instead. On page 7-13, the maintenance schedule for "severe" driving conditions is stated. What needs replaced are the following: (for diesel engines only) 1. Oil and filter - 5000KM or each 6 months of driving 2. Air Cleaner element - as needed basis 3. Automatic transmission fluid - 40,000 km no time limit set. 4. Engine timing belt - 60,000 km or 48 months 5. All other maintenance - as needed basis.
If the oil in the crankcase dried up (due to normal engine burning, etc.) and you have not had it serviced because you have not reached your 5K km, and it's been say 10 months, then Kia may not shoulder the expenses for repair.

sir jching, thanx for the info. but how about the regular maintenance interval? are there no month schedules, just mileage schedule? kse po with honda, they require 10,000kms or 6 months, whichever comes first, if im not mistaken. so with kia, the monthly intervals doesnt matter, just the mileage? kse po,dito ako nagagastusan eh, sa every 6 months na pamaintenance check.dko po ito sinusunod kse i rationalize na im not using the car often thats why i dont get to have 10,000kms every 6 months.so why should i follow the month schedule? i jst have it checked when i reach the 10,000km mark, so in effect, i have my car checked around every 7-9 months.
tnx agen for the info sir jching.im thinking that i might not be able to afford the maintenance if kia follows a strict maintenance interval.
ps. sir jching, how much would it cost per maintenance schedule?
God bless you sir!

Some members have already posted their PMS costs, but I have not reached that many kilometers yet. Right now I hae 1,862KM on my odometer, so I still have 5 months to go. Our members have paid P2000+/- for their 5000km PMS, and P5000+/- for their 10,000km PMS.
You don't have to follow the "severe" maintenance schedule if you think you fall under the normal PMS. Under the normal PMS, the first PMS is at 10,000 kms. The KIA dealerships automatically assume that every resident-owner who lives in Metro-Manila falls under "severe" PMS because of the stop and go traffic, more brake and go, and short distance traveling.

And so on, and on..hanggang sa matapos ang three years mo. Di ba ang warranty natin e 3 years or 110,000 kms whichever comes first.

Strictly speaking, the PMS should be done based on the mileage or the period, whichever comes first. For diesel, every 5,000 kms or 3 months; for gas, 7,500 kms or ?? months, whichever comes first. If you don't follow this and something happened to your car, the dealer has all the rights to deny your warranty claim.
Personally, I don't follow this.
I have a friend - a Kia Carens owner, who had his 5,000 km check-up after a year.

I just checked the Warranty Booklet and Manual. At the WB cover, the warranty period is 3 years or 110,000 kms. Page 7 of WB - Warranty is void for failure to have the prescribed preventive maintenance service for every 5,000 kms (diesel) or 7,500 (gas). Please note it doesn't mention - "or a certain number of months, whichever comes first." Chapter 7 - 8 to 12 of the Manual says that Normal Maintenance Schedule is every 12 months or 15 kilometers, whichever comes first. Chapter 7 - 13 (as pointed out by JChing) Under Severe Condition Change oil must be done every 5,000 kms or 6 months (diesel) and 7,500 kms or 6 months (gas) I think Metro Manila driving is considered under severe condition; and we should follow Chapter 7-13 of the Manual.

6 months or 5K kms din ang sagot sa akin ng signet nung itanong ko yung maintenance schedule. the service manual confirms it. Yes, Metro Manila driving is categorized as "severe" driving conditions.

I think we should base it on what is stated in the manual.

Hi. I am buying a 2011 Carens. I tried to get a list of it's features/specs on line or thru the Kia website, but I was unable to find one. Do you have any file or document that you can share showing the 2011 Carens' features? And how do i join the Carens club? Thanks and more power.
