hi guys just want to share with you my family's recent road-trip to Bikol. and just to let u know, where i come from in terms of cars....had the intimate driving experience with 95 Civic ESi, Hilux Surf Turbo Diesel, Honda Jazz 1.5MT....and now the Carens CRDi LX 6MT.
[LIKES]
- 2.0li CRDi Power and Torque...\
- Good fuel economy (averaged 14kpl) MNL->BKL->MNL
- Powerful 4wheel Disk brakes
- Shape: really like rear quarter view...
- Space for 7.
- A/C powerful enough
- bright 4Lamp headlight system.
- Interior design
[DISLIKES]
- no telescoping Steering wheel.
- can't get good/comfortable seating driving position.
(lack lumbar support)
- seat fabric doesn't have enough hold.
- foot brake, doesn't make sense for MT.
- headlight / turn-signal and wiper controls feels flimsy
Carens side view
side note: its taken at my ancestral home.
at SM City Naga
side note: newly opened lang sya fm. July 2009, interior wise looks much better than SM Bicutan. hahaha.
Atulayan Island background
side note: i think somewhere nearby is where they shoot the Survivor - Israel and Survivor - France TV shows...
Atulayan, with Civic
side note: nasa unahan si first car. hehe.
Lingnon Hills
side note: this one is in Legaspi, over looking Mr. Mayon, this place is famous for Sliding down two steel cables parang ala Amazing Race Asia - Malaysian leg...
Let me just say again, so far this car had been really nice to use, with so much torque available on tap (once the tach swings past 2K RPM) over-taking is a much more pleasant affair than my previous rides. so going up Bitukang manok, also the climb upto Lingnon hill was done without much fuss and drama.
but there are some downside to this CRDi, its not as smooth or as refined as i would like... u see during 2-3 WOT acceleration between 2 to 3K RPM, there's a bit of steering wheel vibration and noise. although the langitngit has been massaged out the vibration and noise still there.
to Sum-up its Tranny / Clutch combo: this is no Honda, so u'd better lower ur expectation to the snick snick rifle bolt like action u get in Honda's manual tranny.
what's dis-appointin in the clutch pedal. as i've already stated before, there's some pulsation u could feel fm. it. the torque has nothing to do with it as it happens even during idle when its not developing that much torque.... there's some sqeak when depressing it, i think it could be resolved with some lubration. and lastly the clutch disk transmits alot of noise / vibration when its struggling to transfer power fm. the engine to the transmission. i think the pressure plate and clutch disk isn't up to the task.... ! also some langingit developed on the driver side door during some uneven road surface run....but it all dis-appeared by itself. haha.
But oh man the interior appointments, look classy and wouldn't be out of place in the Toyota Crown line-up. esp. the dark grey two tone interior (beige on lower portion). also many cubby holes, drink holders and two extra 12V outlet. nice!
but in General, still very happy with the car. i'd still recommend it to anyone looking for a diesel ride with space for at least 7.
